Woman Charged For Helping Daughter Egg The Town

44 year old Jennifer Terry from Ogden was charged with a misdemeanor count of causing a a catastrophe based on accusations that she drove around town with her daughter and other minors, and threw eggs at houses and cars. Investigators say that they threw eggs at as many as 20 homes in the Ogden area on August 20th. Prosecutors estimated the damage at around $2,350 to one of the home's stucco and $3,000 in damage to a car's ignition. Other damages include broken screen, windows, and ruined furniture. Prosecutors have said that Terry told the police that the reason she did it was due to family issues. It is unknown if the minors will be charged in juvenile court.

Comments from Allen: Egging looks harmless enough.  Nobody gets hurt when they get hit by an egg, but when property is hit by an egg, it often gets damaged...and repairs can cost thousands of dollars. This is normally done as a juvenile prank, with the victim discovering the mess after it has dried.  Eggs normally leave stains which cannot be removed, and surfaces need to be re-stained or repainted, sometimes at great cost.

When someone is charged with a misdemeanor like this, often they agree to minimal jail time, and to pay whatever restitution is involved.  Imagine the shock they get when they discover their $200 fine is in addition to the $2,000 the victim, through the district attorney, is demanding to fix the damage.

Two years ago, Justin Bieber made the news when he was caught on video egging his neighbor's house.  Damage was estimated at $20,000 because plaster had to be repaired and doors had to be re-stained.

The bottom line here, of course, is that this is one very expensive prank.  Unless you are Justin Bieber who likes to make a fool out of himself and has lots of money to pay for his destruction, don't go there.
