UPDATE: Student Who Brought Hoax Bomb Now Sues for $15 Million

Ahmed Mohammad brought a homemade clock school which was mistaken for a bomb and caused a huge uproar in the middle of September. Now he and his family are demanding that the city of Irving, Texas, and the school district pay Ahmed $15 million or he is going to file a suit against them. The family is now living in Qatar and the family says that Ahmed is suffering from trauma from the incident.  However, through all of his “severe psychological trauma" he has very busy. Ahmed has met with President Obama, appeared on Dr. Oz, met Sudanese President Omar al Bashir and Turkey Prime Minister Ahmet Davutogl, and traveled to Mecca where he was a special guest of Saudi Arabia King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The school has said that their actions were justified, but the family doesn't want to release the records.

Comments from Allen:  When this story first came out, I smelled a rat.  The "clock" looked like a time bomb; it did not look like a clock.  The boy knew that people might think it was contraband when he brought it to school (because it was!).  The entire episode was a setup by the boy's father, who appears to have a past as an Islamic activist, and may have something to do with this kid's sister having been investigated for making a bomb threat at school on an earlier occasion.

In fact, the boy did not invent anything at all.  He took a commercial alarm clock like you might purchase at WalMart, removed the cover so that it did not look like a clock, and stuck it in a briefcase.

Well, since this incident, far from being traumatized, the boy has (undeservedly) been treated like a rock star:  he was a special guest of President Obama at the White House, he was the special guest of the King of Saudi Arabia in Mecca, he was the special guest of the Prime Minister of Turkey, he was the special guest of Sudanese President Omar al Bashir (who is wanted by the International Criminal Court for committing genocide, and he is living like a rock star in the oil-rich nation of Qatar, where the government is giving him a scholarship to attend school for free.

So is the City of Irving, Texas, going to settle with this kid?  I hope not.  I hope the saying, "Don't mess with Texas" still means something, because I consider this lawsuit an attack on the American way of life.  I have seen Muslims share Facebook posts about how racist America is because this poor kid was harassed by police who knew the thing in his briefcase was not a bomb.  (that was not the point of the police involvement; the police were involved because it appeared to be a "hoax bomb," not a real bomb)  I believe American courts are open for real cases, not cases like this.  I hope Irving takes this case to trial in Texas and lets "I-disassembled-an-ordinary-clock" boy explain to a jury why he claimed to have invented a clock he purchased at a store, why he made it look like a bomb, and how being treated as a middle eastern celebrity, getting a free Qatar education and hanging out with presidents and kings scarred him for life...and a $15 million lifetime scar at that.
