Dominique Sharpton: $5 Million Lawsuit

Dominique Sharpton is currently suing the city of New York for 5 million dollars because she sprained her ankle on an even street last year(pictured below). She claimed that she was "severely injured, bruised and wounded."  The lawsuit says that she will be suffering long term damage from this injury and will be suffering from a loss of quality of life. However, her social media accounts seem to say otherwise. She has been photographed in high heels, climbing a ladder, and hiking to the top of a mountain in Bali.


Dominique's father is known as a "shakedown artist," who basically threatens bad publicity if the other party does not follow his lawsuit demands. Corporations have given his business, Sharpton's National Action Network, an absurd amount of money, so they are not labeled as racist.

So it seems like Dominique has taken notes from her father with this lawsuit. However, there have been other lawsuits in New York regarding the uneven sidewalks over the past two years. Denise Giles won a $2.25 million settlement after she fell on a broken sidewalk and needed ankle surgery.

Dominique Sharpton, Al Sharpton's daughter, is suing the City of New York for $5 million for spraining her ankle.  Ankle injuries can be extremely serious...or not.  I have seen ankle injuries, which initially seemed like a sprain, become $500,000 injuries when efforts to fix the ankle are unsuccessful, or the plaintiff develops complex regional pain syndrome.

This does not appear to be one of those cases.

While the street corner appears to be in bad repair and could cause someone a serious injury, the recent posting of photos of her mountain climbing in Bali and climbing up rocky terrain have apparently proven this case worthless.

I should note that plaintiffs in Idaho are prohibited from filing a personal injury complaint alleging more than $10,000 in non-economic damages.  The reason for this is to prevent people from getting cheap headlines by filing unreasonable lawsuits.  New York could learn a lesson from Idaho in this area.

Man Framed by Prosecutor Released After 29 Years in Prison Seeking Lawsuit

19 year old, Charise Kamps, was found raped and strangled to death in her apartment in June 1980. Ralph Armstrong told the police that both of them were at the apartment alone doing cocaine before leaving to go see friends around 9:30 pm. Police said that they learned that Armstrong owed Kamp's boyfriend $400 and witnesses saw Armstrong handing Kamps money that night. However, the money was not found in the apartment, and Armstrong deposited $315 in his bank the next day.The defense argued that he got the money from his brother. Various methods have been used in police interrogations to elicit a confession. By far the most popular method used for over seventy years is the Reid Technique. This interrogation method assumes guilty suspects can be identified from certain behavioral cues.
