Jared Former Subway Spokesman Plead Guilty to Child Porn

Former Subway spokesman, Jared Fogle, plead guilty to possessing child pornography and traveling to pay for sex with minors. These charges came from a child porn investigation after the ex-head of his nonprofit was arrested for child porn. Federal agents seized his computer and DVDs from his house in Indiana. They also found a jump drive with over 400 videos of child porn. They also subpoenaed text messages from his phone.

A former friend of Jared remember that he used to comment on the attractiveness of young girls. She notified the FBI about the comments and she wore a wire while talking with Jared to help with their investigation.

The sandwich chain has dissolved their relationship with Jared. Jared's wife, Katie Fogle, is going to be filing for a divorce.

Jared is set to accept a plea deal that would include him paying each of the 14 minors involved $100,000 totaling $1.4 million. The money the victims get will help pay for counseling, treatment, support, and other assistance they will need. He will also have to register as a sex offender and get treated for a sexual disorder. He is also not allowed to have any unsupervised meetings or communications with any minor unless they are approved by his probation officer. The government said they will not seek a sentence greater than 12.5 years, and Jared's attorneys aren't asking for anything less than 5 years.

You might say Jared has a minor legal problem. In fact, his problems are deeper than any subway, as he is being sandwiched between a kiddie porn charge on the one hand and an underage-sex problem on the other.  This combo will probably earn him 10-12 years worth of free meals, room and board, as he swears off the unripe tomatoes and tries out the rigorous Leavenworth Diet.

The federal system is brutal toward sex offenders.  Merely possessing kiddie porn images on the metadata of a computer's hard drive gets defendants in these cases about 7 1/2 years in the federal penitentiary, on the average, and that is for someone who just downloaded the stuff off the internet on a file-sharing site (Limewire is the site the FBI monitors most closely).  Jared's conduct is so far beyond what attorneys and judges generallly see in kiddie-porn cases that Jared may get a sentence greater than the 12 1/2 years sought by the federal prosecutors.  Do not expect Jared's attorney to get the 5 years they are requesting.

My take:  Jared is toast.

Man Framed by Prosecutor Released After 29 Years in Prison Seeking Lawsuit

19 year old, Charise Kamps, was found raped and strangled to death in her apartment in June 1980. Ralph Armstrong told the police that both of them were at the apartment alone doing cocaine before leaving to go see friends around 9:30 pm.
