An undated photo shows one of the drawings Casey Nocket, 23, left on national parks in California, Oregon, Colorado and Utah in 2014. 23 year old Casey Nocket of San Diego painted on natural rock formations at national parks across the West and posted her work on social media. She has plead guilty to seven misdemeanors of defacing government property. Nocket admitted to defacing rocks at Death Valley National Park, Yosemite, Zion, Crater Lake National Park, and Rocky Mountain National Park. She used Instagram and Tumbr to share her graffiti which lead to outrage by those who saw it. Eastern District US Attorney Phillip Talbert said that Nocket's defacement showed her lack of respect for the law and our shared national treasures.

Nocket was sentenced to probation for two years, where she is banned from all federal lands, and 200 hours of community service including graffiti removal. She is also required to write a letter of apology to the National Park Service. She is going to have another hearing to determine how much she will have to pay for restitution.

This lady probably has no criminal history, and that is why she got what sounds like a pretty sweet deal from the prosecutor and court.  My guess is that the National Park Service was more concerned with removing her paint, and making her pay for every penny of that cost, than with having her sit in a little cell for 7 years, drawing her pictures and showcasing them in the prisoner art gallery (which many jails have).  I would not be surprised to see her paying a bill of several thousand dollars for the cost of safely removing every speck of paint she left on those rocks.

Man Framed by Prosecutor Released After 29 Years in Prison Seeking Lawsuit

19 year old, Charise Kamps, was found raped and strangled to death in her apartment in June 1980. Ralph Armstrong told the police that both of them were at the apartment alone doing cocaine before leaving to go see friends around 9:30 pm. Police said that they learned that Armstrong owed Kamp's boyfriend $400 and witnesses saw Armstrong handing Kamps money that night. However, the money was not found in the apartment, and Armstrong deposited $315 in his bank the next day.The defense argued that he got the money from his brother. One of the neighbors saw a lean, muscular man about 5 feet 5 inches tall with long, dark hair drive up to the apartment. Before the identification process, the police had the witness hypnotized. Various methods have been used in police interrogations to elicit a confession. By far the most popular method used for over seventy years is the Reid Technique. This interrogation method assumes guilty suspects can be identified from certain behavioral cues.
