Girlfriend Helps Cover up Murder at Ft.Hood, Texas

On July 5, 2020, Texas police discovered the body of Spc. Vanessa Guillen. Actually, they discovered her "remains," as she had been cut to pieces by her murderer and his girlfriend.

Ms. Guillen had gone missing April 22, 2020, from her post at Ft. Hood, Texas.  According to police reports, 20 year old Specialist Aaron Robinson bludgeoned her to death with a hammer on that date.

July 1, 2020, as police approached Robinson, he committed suicide. In the days that followed, police arrested Robinson's girlfriend, Cecily Aguilar.  Ms. Aguilar, the estranged wife of another soldier at Ft. Hood, was charged with conspiracy to tamper with evidence.  After questioning, she admitted she helped her boyfriend cut up the body of Spc. Guillen and put the pieces into a box.  The couple then took the box to a remote location in the county, dumped the remains into three holes in the ground and covered over the holes.  Aguilar was able to tell the police where the holes were located.

Comments from Allen:

This is an unbelievably sad and tragic event. The police apparently got the backstory on this murder/mutilation case from Cecily Aguilar, the 22 year old girlfriend of Aaron Robinson. While the apparent murderer has committed suicide, his girlfriend/accomplice is by no means home free.

Aguilar would appear to be a suspect in the murder itself.  What kind of girlfriend, upon discovering her boyfriend had murdered a woman, helps him cut the victim into pieces so she fits more neatly into three holes in the ground?

If Aguilar is not complicit in the murder itself, there are multiple crimes for which she can be prosecuted.  First, misprison of felony. If you witness someone commit a felony in Texas, as in most states, the failure to report the act to the police is a crime.  In Texas, it is a misdemeanor that carries a one year jail term and fine up to $4,000.

Abuse of a corpse is itself a felony under Texas Penal Code Section 42.08.  Every state expects dead bodies will be treated with dignity.  Hacking up a corpse is punishable by up to 2 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

Since the purpose of hacking up the corpse in this instance was to conceal evidence of a murder, Ms. Aguilar committed the felony of "Tampering With Physical Evidence," a violation of Texas Penal Code Section 37.09, which carries a penalty of 2-10 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.  The police have formally charged Aguilar with conspiracy to commit this crime.

What is the lesson here? If your boyfriend asks you to help him dismember the body of a woman he has just murdered, politely decline, and consider calling the police.  He's not good boyfriend material anyway.
